What is the program? |
o The
SRVHS Renaissance program is apart of a devoted leadership
program with an objective to help motivate individual
attendance, academic excellence, and citizenship. Renaissance
not only reaches out to the entire campus, but it also strives
to recognize all individual students. The Renaissance program
is based on the principles of performance, promotion, and
partnership. The four target areas of the Renaissance program:

~ To increase student attendance

Why is it important? |
o Promotes
a good academic atmosphere
o Reinforces good study habits and positive
behavior
o Rewards students who deserve recognition
o Throughout the past few years the number of renaissance
students has improved 13%. In 2002-2003 there were
648 Renaissance winners, in 2003-04 there were 763 winners
and in 2004-5 there were 961 students rewarded. The data has
shown that the Renaissance program has noted positive progress
in areas such as:

Who is rewarded? |
o
Academic Excellence:
|
~
4.0 GPA or higher All students who receive a 4.o GPA each
quarter are rewarded and recognized.
~ 4 or more Outstanding Citizenships on your report card--Every
student who receives 4 outstanding citizenship marks per
quarter are rewarded and recognized.
~ .5 GPA improvement for (1st semester and 3rd quarter)
.5 increase in grade point average from quarter to quarter
~ Scholar Athlete/Fine Arts Scholar Athletes or Advanced
Fine Arts Students who receive a 3.5 G.P.A or higher while
participating in a SRVHS sport, receive a scholar athlete
award.
~ 97 % Attendance: Rewards for those students who exceed
the SRVHS and SRVUSD attendance goals of 96% attendance.
Students are awards for each quarter and school activities
are excluded. Renaissance also partners with the Oakland
Athletics and participates in the Stay in School Challenge.

o Student
of the Month Program - Teachers nominate students
for any of the following: excellent attitude towards learning,
intellectual vitality, outstanding classroom behavior, contribution
to or supportive of other students’ academic success.
Eight students a month are rewarded and recognized.

o Staff
Appreciation - We recognize staff on a regular basis
at staff meetings and luncheons for personal achievement and
for the contribution of their personal time. Additionally,
Renaissance honors the teachers who regularly go the extra
mile; who make learning in their classrooms unforgettable
for their students. We are always looking for ways to reward
our teachers for a job well done.

How are students rewarded? |
o Quarter
Awards: Each quarter we reward students who have
accomplished the Renaissance categories. Every quarter about
600-1,000 students from the previous categories win Renaissance.
The awards included items such as: a free BBQ, school supplies,
spirit items, discount cards, t-shirts, cups coffee mugs,
key chains, and free meals. Every year over 1,100 students
win Renaissance at least one quarter
o Academic Rally - This high-energy, choreo-graphed
event is an annual celebration of academic excellence and
achievement to honor our students and staff members. All business
sponsors are welcome to be a part of the celebration. In the
Academic Assembly we include awards such as:

Scholar athlete with highest GPA
~ Scholar Fine Arts student with highest GPA
~ Students of the year (8-2 from each class)
~ Super Senior (student with most Renaissance awards in
four years)
~ Senior Renaissance cords (seniors who win about eight
times during high school career)

o Top
100 Test performers and improvers or individual test awards
for:

~ AP
Scores-reward ALL 4 and 5s for all juniors and seniors AP
scores
~ CHSSE/Exit Exam-Reward those students with high performance
on the exam (if possible)
~ PSAT/SAT/ACT-Reward those students with high performance
on the exam (if possible)
~ STAR RECOGNITION-Reward those students who have the highest
scores and those who improve a level from year to year.
