As
a choral director Ken
Abrams has been described as intense, demanding, and passionate.
He is a graduate of California State University, Hayward, where he
majored in vocal performance and graduated with honors. He received
his Master's Degree in choral conducting from the University of Illinois
in 1990. He has been the choral director at San Ramon Valley High
School for the past twenty-four years. In the 2007, both the Chamber
Singers AND the Concert Choir won first place at the Golden State
Choral Competition. In 2005 both the Concert Choir and the Treble
Clef Choir took first place at this event. 2004-05 school year,
the Chamber Singers won first prize at the KBLX Winter Choral Competition
with a $5,000 prize! Mr. Abrams was selected as "Teacher
Of The Year" in 2006 by the Chamber of Commerce. He was
also awarded the "Teacher of the Year" for the San Ramon
Valley Unified School District in 1996 and for San Ramon Valley High
School in 2002. His choirs are noted for their commitment to excellence
and by their outstanding ranking at competitions and festivals. Touring
is an important component of their curriculum taking the choirs to
such places as New Orleans, Atlanta, New York City, Chicago, Vancouver,
Salt Lake City, Dallas and many other US cities. In the summer
of 2007, they traveled to Spain. They have also made two European
Tours -- 1998 to Central Europe and 2001 to the British Isles and
a trip to Australia and New Zealand in 2004 . In addition to his duties
at San Ramon Valley High School, Mr. Abrams is also the Artistic Director
of the Danville Girls Chorus, a community children's chorus with over
one hundred and sixty singers, and he is the president of the California
American Choral Director's Association.
